How to judge Bench Boost for GW7

Bench Boost only pays off when your cheap players are starting and facing something workable. GW7 has a cluster of Brighton assets at home to Crystal Palace that makes this chip worth a second look, but the call still comes down to the same three checks every week.

What matters this week

  • Fixture concentration: Brighton host Crystal Palace and supply five of the sixteen names worth benching, including Kostoulas (xP 7.15), Groß (xP 6.03) and De Cuyper (xP 5.60).
  • Form over price: Verbruggen (form 7.7) and De Cuyper (form 10.7) are both cheap enough for a bench slot but carrying form numbers that beat players costing far more.
  • Selection as a signal: Low ownership names like Rushworth (0.7%), Georginio (0.4%) and Ayari (0.4%) show up with respectable xP too, meaning the pool isn’t just the obvious template names.

How to weigh it

Fixture and form should outrank raw price every time you’re deciding which bench players justify the chip. A sub-£5m player with a strong home fixture and recent form, like De Cuyper at £5.0m with form of 10.7, does more for a Bench Boost than a slightly pricier option with a tougher trip, like Calafiori away at Nottingham Forest. Selection percentage is secondary, it tells you how crowded the pick is, not how good it is. Use it only as a tiebreaker when xP and form are close, as with Groß (36.9% owned) against Gomez (3.6%) despite both profiting from the same fixture.

Top picks per position

  • GKP: Verbruggen (£4.5m, xP 4.46, form 7.7) for the form, Kinsky (£4.5m, xP 4.67, form 4.0) for the raw xP.
  • DEF: De Cuyper (£5.0m, xP 5.60, form 10.7) is the standout, with Vuskovic (£5.0m, xP 5.01, form 7.3) as a cheaper alternative from the same fixture.
  • MID: Groß (£6.0m, xP 6.03, form 12.3) leads the pack, Gomez (£5.0m, xP 4.64) offers similar upside at lower ownership.
  • FWD: Kostoulas (£5.6m, xP 7.15, form 7.0) is the clear top projection across every position listed here.

Squad-fit notes

If your bench already leans Brighton, stacking more of them (Groß, Kostoulas, De Cuyper) compounds the same fixture risk rather than diversifying it. Mixing in a non-Brighton name like Gvardiol (£5.8m, xP 5.03, form 5.0) at home to Ipswich, or Evanilson (£6.0m, xP 5.13) at home to Sunderland, spreads that exposure.

If you are unsure

If you don’t have at least three of these names already benched, hold the chip. The safe default is to wait for a week where your bench overlaps more naturally with this list, rather than forcing transfers just to trigger Bench Boost.
