How to plan your transfers for GW8

GW8 decisions come down to three things: who has the fixture, who has the form, and whether the price tag still matches the output. The data this week gives clear answers on all three.

What matters this week

  • Fixtures: Haaland and Cherki both travel to Aston Villa, while Isak, De Cuyper and Groß are all involved in the Liverpool v Brighton fixture, two of the most attractive matchups on the board.
  • Form: De Cuyper (7.0) and Groß (6.7) are in-form Brighton assets, and Haaland’s 8.3 form backs up his league-leading 9.09 xP. Compare that to the transfer-out candidates, none of whom have a form rating above 2.0.
  • Ownership and price: Haaland sits at 76.5% selected, so he is close to mandatory, while Isak at 12.3% and Cherki at 37.0% offer more differential upside at lower prices (£9.0m and £8.0m respectively).

How to weigh it

Fixture and form should agree before you move. Haaland ticks every box: elite form, a strong underlying xP figure, and a winnable fixture away at Villa, which is why ownership is already so high. When form and fixture align but ownership is low, like with Isak or Cherki, that is where you find value and differentials. On the sell side, the decision is simpler: when form has collapsed to 2.0 or below with no fixture signal in your favour, the data gives you no reason to hold.

Top transfers in

1. Haaland (MCI, £15.7m)

xP of 9.09 and form of 8.3 make him the standout pick this week, away at Aston Villa.

2. Isak (LIV, £9.0m)

xP of 5.47 at home to Brighton, with ownership still low at 12.3%, offers differential value.

3. De Cuyper (BHA, £5.2m)

Form of 7.0 and xP of 5.21 away at Liverpool make him the standout budget defender this week.

Top transfers out

1. Tavernier (BOU, £6.1m)

Form has dropped to 1.0 with no fixture data to offset it.

2. Davis (IPS, £4.0m)

Form of 1.0 at a price that no longer reflects return.

3. M.Sangaré (BRE, £5.5m)

The weakest form figure in the data at 0.7, despite 7.5% ownership still clinging on.

Recommended swaps

Tavernier to De Cuyper: both are defenders, but De Cuyper’s 7.0 form and 5.21 xP against Tavernier’s 1.0 form make this a clear upgrade at a similar price point.

M.Sangaré to Groß: moving from a 0.7 form midfielder to one at 6.7 form with a 4.94 xP in a strong Brighton fixture at Liverpool is as close to a free upgrade as the data allows.

If you are unsure

Default to Haaland if you do not already own him. His 9.09 xP and 8.3 form against a Villa fixture make him the lowest-risk, highest-floor pick in the data, even at 76.5% ownership.
