How to handle injuries for GW7

GW7 brings a cluster of Champions League and international casualties straight into FPL teams. Here is how to think through it before you touch your transfers.

What matters this week

  • European fixtures collide with the gameweek. Liverpool’s trip to Lask takes out two heavily owned assets, Gakpo (7.3%) and Isak (13.6%), both confirmed absent by The Guardian Football.
  • Manchester United’s Atletico game creates a double doubt. Sky Sports Football reports Shaw (6.5%) and Mainoo (1.4%) are both out of that fixture.
  • Ownership size determines urgency. Szoboszlai sits at 26.7% and Schade at 14.6%, so even a “doubt” tag at those ownership levels forces a real decision, while injured players under 2% ownership are low priority regardless of outlet attention.

How to weigh it

Status and ownership have to be read together. A confirmed injury on a low-owned player, like Igor Jesus at 1.8% or Targett at 1.4%, barely moves the needle and can be left alone or ignored. A doubt on a highly owned player, like Szoboszlai at 26.7%, is the one that actually costs you points if you guess wrong, so it deserves a transfer slot before an obscure injured player does. Confirmed “out of the game” news, as with Shaw, Mainoo, Gakpo and Isak, removes the guesswork entirely, those are bench or sell calls now rather than gambles.

The most-owned doubts

  • Szoboszlai (LIV, 26.7%, doubt): FPL Harry flagged him as a transfer-out target for GW7. Hold only if you have no better option, otherwise consider moving on.
  • Schade (BRE, 14.6%, doubt): Planet FPL lists him among players needing replacement options. Treat as a bench risk.
  • Isak (LIV, 13.6%, doubt): Confirmed absent for the Lask trip per The Guardian Football. Bench or sell if you need the funds elsewhere.
  • Gakpo (LIV, 7.3%, doubt): Also confirmed out against Lask. Avoid starting him.
  • Shaw (MUN, 6.5%, doubt): Confirmed out of the Atletico game by Sky Sports Football. Bench this week.
  • Tzolis (ARS, 6.1%, injured): Picked up a knock in Greece’s match per Sky Sports Football. Avoid.
  • Pedro Porro (TOT, 5.6%, injured): BBC Sport Football raised transfer speculation alongside the injury tag. Monitor before committing a transfer.

Returners worth bringing in

  • Alex Scott (BOU, 3.4%): The Guardian Football notes he is gaining opportunities in the England camp, worth a speculative look at low ownership.
  • Mykolenko (EVE, 3.1%, doubt): Worth tracking if his status clears before deadline.
  • Mainoo (MUN, 1.4%, doubt): Low-owned enough to ignore unless news improves, but worth a watchlist spot given United’s rotation.

If you are unsure

Default to holding low-owned injured players and benching confirmed absentees like Shaw, Gakpo and Isak. Only use a transfer on the high-ownership doubts, Szoboszlai and Schade, where getting it wrong actually costs you rank.
