Triple Captain target for GW3

GW3 is a single gameweek, which makes the Triple Captain chip a tough sell. Doubling your captain score only matters if that score is big, and without a double fixture to lean on, you are relying on one exceptional performance. That said, if your hand is forced or you are simply looking for the right moment, one player stands clearly above the rest.

The Target: Haaland

Erling Haaland is the pick. His expected points of 9.18 are comfortably the highest of any candidate this week, and his fixture backs it up: Manchester City host Coventry at home. With a form rating of 7.5 and ownership at 68.3%, he is the consensus captain choice for the majority of the game already. Triple Captaining him costs you nothing in relative terms against most of your rivals, while a big haul would give you a significant edge over the minority not on him.

At £15.5m he is priced as the premium, and the data supports that premium. No other candidate this week comes within 2.7 expected points of him.

The Rest of the Candidates

Havertz (ARS, £7.5m) is second on xP at 6.40, hosting Chelsea in what looks a solid home fixture, but his form rating of 3.0 and ownership of just 7.5% reflect real uncertainty around his output. The numbers do not justify a Triple Captain here.

Thiago (BRE, £8.0m) posts an xP of 6.17 at home to Sunderland, but a form rating of 0.0 and 0 points banked so far make this a speculative play, not a chip play.

Gyokeres (ARS, £7.4m) sits at 5.84 xP with 0.0 form and just 6.5% ownership. As an Arsenal forward also facing Chelsea, the fixture is the same as Havertz. The data does not separate him enough to warrant consideration for the TC.

Isak (LIV, £9.0m) rounds out the list at 5.83 xP, travelling to Ipswich with a form rating of 1.0. The away fixture and modest form make him the weakest case of the five.

Verdict

In a single gameweek, Triple Captain is a chip best saved unless your player has a standout fixture and the numbers to match. This week, Haaland is the only candidate who clears both bars. If you are playing the chip in GW3, he is your man. Everyone else is a significant step down in both expected output and fixture quality. Hold the chip if Haaland is not in your squad.
