A trip to Old Trafford is not a soft touch on paper, yet City’s front-foot approach against United has historically produced chances for their number nine, and the projection reflects that.
The case against pulling the trigger on Haaland is simple: form is 5.0, the joint-lowest of the group, and an away fixture against a direct rival is not the “exceptional matchup” this chip should be reserved for in a non-double gameweek. If you are chasing certainty, this is not it. If you are chasing ceiling, the xP figure says it still might be worth the risk.
The fixture rationale
Alexander Isak presents the strongest form-to-fixture combination on this list. His form of 7.7 is the best of the five, his xP of 7.50 sits just behind Haaland, and he gets Fulham at home rather than a top-six away day. At 16.6% ownership, he is also the differential option if you want the Triple Captain to swing your rank rather than just protect it. João Pedro’s home fixture against Hull carries a strong xP of 6.58 and solid form of 6.7, but his 71.3% ownership means captaining him barely moves anyone relative to the template.
Bruno Fernandes has the best raw form in the group at 8.3, but his xP of 5.60 is the lowest of the five, and a home game against Manchester City is the kind of fixture that can cut both ways for a United midfielder. Cole Palmer’s 5.35 xP and 6.7 form against Hull at home are solid without being spectacular, and his 19.4% ownership makes him a differential rather than a template lock.
Who to avoid
Avoid using the Triple Captain purely on reputation this week. Bruno Fernandes’ elite form of 8.3 is tempting, but his 5.60 xP is the weakest projection here and the fixture against City is not the free hit some will assume. Similarly, resist captaining a low-xP asset just because ownership feels safe.
