Selection percentage also matters as a signal of template risk, not just popularity, since some low-owned options like Isak (21.9%) and De Cuyper (25.2%) are outperforming their price tag.
How to weigh it
Fixtures and form should carry more weight than price alone. A cheap player in poor form (van Ewijk, £4.0m, form 1.2) is not automatically a bench option just because he’s affordable, he’s a drag on your XI regardless of budget. Conversely, a pricier player with strong underlying numbers (B.Fernandes, xP 5.70, form 5.8) justifies the spend even against a tougher home fixture. When two players have similar form, let fixture and price break the tie. When form gaps are large, as with James versus Palmer, form wins outright.
