How to climb your mini-league in GW7

If your mini-league rivals are all parked on the same captain and the same three template defenders, template picks only let you tread water. Climbing requires exposure they don’t have. That means differentials, players with low ownership who can outscore the obvious choices. Here is how to think about them for GW7, then the picks.

What matters this week

Three things decide this call for GW7:

  • The Brighton fixture. Brighton host Crystal Palace, and that single fixture produces three of the five picks below, including one at 0.4% ownership.
  • Form versus price. Groß (12.3 form) and De Cuyper (10.7 form) are both in excellent recent scoring stretches at modest prices, £6.0m and £5.0m respectively.
  • Ownership gap versus xP. Georginio projects 5.45 xP at just 0.4% selected. That gap between projection and ownership is exactly where rank is won.

How to weigh it

Form and fixture point you toward Brighton’s trio, but ownership tells you how much rank is actually on offer. A player at 28.9% selected, like Cherki, is a differential relative to the top captains but won’t move you much against a mini-league full of casual players. A player at 0.4%, like Georginio, barely anyone else owns, so every point he returns is pure separation. Weigh recent form for reliability, but weigh ownership for impact. The lower the number, the bigger the swing if it hits.

The top 5 picks

1. Groß (MID, BHA, £6.0m) xP 6.03, form 12.3, owned by 36.9%. Home against Crystal Palace. The highest projection on this list, and his ownership, while not microscopic, is low enough to separate you from managers who skipped him.

2. De Cuyper (DEF, BHA, £5.0m) xP 5.60, form 10.7, owned by 32.5%. Same fixture, same upside, and a cheap price point that frees funds elsewhere.

3. Cherki (MID, MCI, £7.8m) xP 5.56, form 3.0, owned by 28.9%. Home against Ipswich. Lower recent form than the Brighton pair, but the fixture and price support the projection.

4. Georginio (FWD, BHA, £5.3m) xP 5.45, form 1.7, owned by just 0.4%. The standout differential on this list. Modest recent form but a huge ownership gap against a strong projection, home to Palace.

5. Wissa (FWD, NEW, £6.3m) xP 5.34, form 0.7, owned by 19.0%. Home against Aston Villa. Lowest form of the five, so treat this as the riskiest pick of the group.

Captaincy angle

For captaincy, Groß’s combination of the highest xP (6.03) and strongest form (12.3) makes him the standout armband option among this group, with the added benefit that his 36.9% ownership means a fair share of your rivals won’t have him either. Georginio is too low owned and too light on form to risk the captaincy, but he’s an ideal differential pick in the squad itself.

If you are unsure

If you don’t want to gamble on the long shots, lean on Groß and De Cuyper. Both combine strong form with the same favourable fixture, giving you differential upside without the ownership-zero risk of Georginio.
