How to read form going into GW8

Six gameweeks are in the books, which is enough football to notice patterns but not enough to call anything settled. Form scores at this stage are built on five or six matches, so treat them as a flag to investigate rather than a verdict. Here is how to use the numbers in front of you to make GW8 calls.

What matters this week

  • Form over a short sample: Haaland’s 8.3 and Neto’s 7.3 are strong, but they cover only six gameweeks of data.
  • Price and ownership gaps: Neto sits at £6.5m with just 1.7% ownership, while Haaland at £15.7m is owned by 76.5%, so the risk profile of jumping on either is very different.
  • Persistent poor returns: Tavernier (1.0), Davis (1.0) and M.Sangaré (0.7) are all returning almost nothing despite being owned by over 7% of managers, which is the real signal to act on.

How to weigh it

A high form score on a premium, highly owned asset like Haaland is low risk to follow since the price and ownership already reflect quality. A high form score on a cheap, low owned player like Neto (7.3, 1.7% sel) or De Cuyper (7.0, 40.0% sel) is higher reward but needs more scrutiny, since a shorter run of returns can look impressive in isolation. On the sell side, weigh ownership against form: a faller like Lammens at 2.0 form and 8.8% ownership is a bigger decision for the template than M.Sangaré at 0.7 form but similar ownership, simply because more squads are affected.

Risers worth a look

Haaland leads at 8.3 form and remains the most owned asset in the game at 76.5%, so this is confirmation rather than a tip. Neto’s 7.3 form at £6.5m with only 1.7% selected is the standout differential shape. De Cuyper (7.0, £5.2m, 40.0% sel) and Semenyo (7.0, £8.3m, 14.4% sel) back up strong recent form with still-moderate ownership. Cunha rounds out the group at 6.7 form, £7.9m and 6.8% sel, a cheaper route into in-form attacking returns.

Fallers to reassess

Bogle (2.0 form, £4.7m, 9.7% sel) and Lammens (2.0 form, £4.9m, 8.8% sel) are the two most-owned names returning little. Tavernier (1.0, £6.1m, 7.8% sel) and Davis (1.0, £4.0m, 7.5% sel) are producing almost nothing at mid-to-low prices. M.Sangaré is the weakest of the group at 0.7 form on 7.5% ownership, the clearest sell signal by the numbers alone.

Fade or hold dilemmas

Haaland is nobody’s fade given the form and ownership, but his price means any transfer in costs a large chunk of budget, so the dilemma is squad fit, not quality. Lammens and Bogle sit in a trickier spot: both near 2.0 form and both owned by under 10%, so holding is defensible if you already own them, but bringing either in now is hard to justify against the data shown.

If you are unsure

Default to trusting the highest, most broadly owned form score, Haaland, and avoid chasing single-digit-ownership risers purely on a six-gameweek sample. If in doubt on fallers, prioritise selling the most-owned underperformer first since that is where the squad damage is greatest.
