The pick
Erling Haaland is the standout captain for GW37. He leads the gameweek on expected points at 7.58 xP, comfortably ahead of the rest of the field, and that gap matters when the armband decision is this concentrated. Even with a modest recent form figure of 5.4, he remains the highest-upside option because Manchester City away to Bournemouth is still the best attacking environment among the premium candidates listed here.
The other key factor is reliability of route to points. Haaland is the focal point of City’s attack and also carries the highest effective ownership pressure, with 62.5% selected. That should not decide the pick on its own, but when the best projection also belongs to the most explosive striker in the pool, there is little reason to get too clever. In GW37, the safest play and the strongest upside play are the same name.
Alternatives
João Pedro is the clearest alternative if you want to oppose Haaland. The Chelsea forward is second for the week on 5.75 xP, with a home fixture against Spurs and a price of just £7.4m. The appeal is obvious, especially if you expect an open game with chances at both ends. The trade-off is his lower recent form at 2.8, plus a smaller projection cushion than Haaland. He is viable, but he needs the fixture to outperform the model.
Enzo is a more aggressive differential captain. His expected points are only 3.73, which is a long way off the top, but his form is strong at 6.0 and his ownership is just 12.3%. If you are chasing rank and want exposure to Chelsea at home to Spurs without following the crowd on João Pedro, Enzo offers a path. The downside is obvious, midfielders in this projection range rarely match an elite forward for captaincy ceiling.
Semenyo and Cherki are both difficult to back ahead of Haaland despite sharing the same Manchester City fixture away to Bournemouth. Semenyo comes in at 4.60 xP with 4.2 form and 46.2% selection, while Cherki is at 3.71 xP, 2.4 form and 17.4% selection. Both are reasonable side picks, but neither has the combination of centrality and raw projection that makes for an optimal captain. If you want City, the armband should stay on Haaland.
The verdict
Captain Haaland. The numbers are clear, 7.58 xP is the best projection in GW37 by a healthy margin, and no alternative offers a better mix of floor, ceiling and team context. João Pedro is the main challenger if you want to take a calculated swing, and Enzo is the differential for aggressive managers, but the decisive call is Haaland away to Bournemouth.
