What matters this week
Three things decide your GW5 transfer call: form, fixture, and price. The data shows a clear split between assets trending up and assets trending down.
- Form and fixture together: Haaland (form 8.2) is at home to SUN, and Gvardiol shares that 8.2 form and the same home fixture. That double signal is rare.
- Price versus output: Calvert-Lewin at £6.0m returns an xP of 6.33, well above his price point, against a home CRY tie.
- Sustained decline: Thiago (form 1.2), van Ewijk (form 1.5), Shaw (form 1.8), Maguire (form 2.0) and Lacroix (form 2.5) are all cooling off, and each still carries meaningful ownership between 7.2% and 9.9%, meaning a lot of squads are exposed.
How to weigh it
When form and fixture point the same direction, as with Haaland and Gvardiol both at 8.2 form and both home to SUN, the case is strong regardless of price. When they diverge, such as Isak’s strong away xP of 6.39 against BOU without the same raw form spike, lean on xP as the tiebreaker since it already blends underlying performance and opponent. Price only matters at the margins: Calvert-Lewin’s £6.0m tag makes him worth prioritizing over pricier names with similar returns, since he frees up budget elsewhere. On the outgoing side, form decline matters more than reputation. A £4.9m or £7.9m price tag does not protect a player once output has dropped this far, and high ownership just means more managers need to act.
